FIVE (5) DESTRUCTIVE GHANAIAN ATTITUDES

GHANA is a blessed nation that has all that it takes to be among the 5 best nations in the world. Ghana is blessed with human resources, natural resources, and spiritual resources but plagued with some destructive attitudes that are never addressed. These attitudes have led the rich nation to be occupied by poor people, good leaders with poor governance, leaders with selfish ambitions always using the country as stares to climb higher, intelligent people living in ignorance, and people of God serving the Devil. The attitudes are;

NO RESPECT FOR LIFE
There is no sign of any right to life or protection of lives of Ghanaians. Hence the nonchalant attitude of the government and the noiseful but actionless attitude of the citizens. Always valuing properties than human lives. May 9th, June 3rd and many others we can talk of, what have we learnt from these tragedies 80% of which is caused by us?

NO MAINTENANCE CULTURE
Ghanaians struggle and spend so much to put up structures or construct roads, or equip establishments but will not want to spend a pesewa to maintain it. Hence, Ghanaian roads are terrible, poor lighting systems on our roads, houses look tattered, and the environment is unkept.

WASTEFUL
From lack of maintenance comes wastefulness. We tear down to begin anew. No continuity. Many projects are abandoned by a government that didn’t start it. We waste resources on things that are not important and careless about the welfare of the people.

MANAGING
Ghanaians are good ‘managers’. Managing here means economizing, or not taking adequate needed action, or not saving a situation when necessary until it becomes unmanageable. Ghana keeps managing everything even life hence, the nation can’t keep up with the standards.

HYPOCRITICAL
Ghanaians live a lie (from the top to the bottom). The very reason there are so many churches, mosques, temples, and shrines, appealing to God and the gods in prayers and worship yet many go out to do the very opposite. They serve the God of love and peace yet many live in hates and violence. People hide under religion to perpetrate evil while at the same time use the same religion as a safe place. Religion in Ghana brings to life the words of Karl Marx: “Religion is the sigh of the oppressed creature, the heart of a heartless world, and the soul of soulless conditions. It is the opium of the people”. I know we have genuine and good citizens but it is unfortunate the bad ones are dominating and always suppressing the good ones.

If Ghanaians can recognize and change these attitudes, there will be no home for corruption, Ghana will reach her full potentials and Ghanaians will be at peace with self and selves in true blessedness of a serene environment.

Thus says the Lord, “If you really change your ways and your actions and deal with each other justly, if you do not oppress the foreigner, the fatherless or the widow and do not shed innocent blood in this place, and if you do not follow other gods to your own harm, then I will let you live in this place, in the land I gave your ancestors for ever and ever. But look, you are trusting in deceptive words that are worthless…” (Jer 7:5-8ff).

Have you ever sat and reflected on the words in the National Anthem, Yen ara asase yi, Adikanfo, Asem yi dika and the others?

Our forefathers who toiled for us are weeping because of our inner and outer actions and if you and I don’t change our lives we will experience the worse.
Be a Patriotic Ghanaian not a Partisan Ghanaian.
